I had lunch with my brother and we talked about the prospect of the render farm with the three (now four) machines I have as candidates. He agreed that there might not be any potential for making money, and it might cost more than it reaps, but he sounded positive.
I needed his opinion since he has direct experience with server systems (which I lack), render farms (which I lack) and the demands of rendering on the whole (which I lack). So for him it’s even a vicarious thrill.
My goals at this point are to …
- get the things tested
- get the things working
- get the things networked
- get the things rendering
- get the things managed
- get some reward for my effort
and all pretty much in that order. Piece of cake, right?
