RIP Turbo

With the final experiment concluded, it’s time to disassemble Turbo, the Ubuntu-driven 120Mhz Pentium computer. I’ll give back the parts I borrowed from work (the 16Mb SIMMS) and send the rest to recycling. That was the plan all the while.

It was interesting to see how Ubuntu worked on such out-of-date hardware. If I had gotten a serial mouse to work, I might have gotten a more accurate impression, but it’s okay. It’s not any better than modern versions of Windows, really. But where XP would have refused outright to install, Ubuntu at least gave an effort.

Actually, I think the moral of the story is that the hardware is willing, but the OS leaves it behind. And of course, that’s something I could have guessed at a few days ago, and saved myself the stress.
