If the idea of binary drivers included in Ubuntu by default really sticks in your craw, there is a petition afoot to have them installed as optional, or at least to notify the installer that proprietary or non-open software is being included.
There’s also a wiki page of concordant thinkers who find the proprietary driver issue unappealing.
As for myself, I intend to wait and see. I use the proprietary drivers all the time, and so having them installed by default is a nonissue. It seems logical to at least ask before installing something that involves a EULA, but for now I’m willing to see how it shakes out.
