Mike, an admin on the forums, has put together an excellent explanation of the long-standing censorship versus free speech debate as it applies to forum posts. It’s definitely worth a read.
My own philosophy runs concurrent to that. Yes, I am a strong adherent to principles of free speech. As a journalist, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
But when you sign on to the forums, you agree to exercise your free speech in accordance to the principles the community wants. And that’s where moderators come in, and where the need to remove inappropriate material appears.
Enough said.
