This is what’s cool about Linux

This is a very dated article, but it’s interesting to read about the history behind Arch Linux. It also highlight’s what’s cool about Linux, and open source on the whole:

He liked the way someone else did it.

He saw where it could be improved.

He fixed it and started something new.

And all that without reinventing the wheel. It’s like when you were a little kid and you were told to share, because that’s what nice kids did. Somewhere along the line, people (maybe just in Western culture) get it in their heads to stop sharing, because it’s more profitable.

Maybe for one person, but not for everybody.
