I’ve swapped out the 300Mhz Pentium II machine for the troublesome 750Mhz Pentium III that started this whole escapade. I wanted to rebuild it cleanly again with an older kernel, and maybe try out a couple of other tricks.
I’ll be switching back soon, though. For one thing, I really like working with the 300Mhz machine. It’s quieter and simpler. And it’s a kind of a success story.
And it is immensely gratifying to tell people I have a Pentium II that boots faster than their 2.4Ghz machine.
