As quickly as I fell for a straight Beryl-plus-X environment, I dropped it. I very easily grew tired of waiting for browsers to scroll and for file managers to refresh.
I liked the eye candy, but it was going to take a machine of slightly better power to keep me enthralled. 1Ghz and 64Mb are enough to do the job, but not enough to keep me from noticing the occasional hiccup.
If I ever pick up a speedier machine with a little more powerful graphics card, I might go back, but for now I lust for speed and responsiveness, and I don’t like the added weight I incur with an eye candy desktop. Even if it is relatively lightweight.
