Check inside your /etc/hosts file, and if you see this
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.1.1 cc99p01
Change it to this
127.0.0.1 localhost cc99p01
127.0.1.1 cc99p01
(Of course, yours won’t say cc99p01. It should say the name of your host machine. You know what I mean.)
It might make some of your applications start a little faster, or perhaps even make your system a little more responsive. The difference will probably be more noteworthy if you’re using a heavier desktop environment.
Dapper users don’t get this tweak; it was something that was changed when Edgy was being developed.
