Edit: Unfortunately, the images originally included in this post are gone, because of hosting problems in late 2009. My apologies.
It’s time to say goodbye to my little red laptop. I can’t imagine that it will be worth much, but if you’re interested. …
Xubuntu 6.10 is installed and updated, the wireless card is set up and configured, and it comes with a healthy chunk of RAM, a decent hard drive and a CDRW/DVD-ROM. You even get a Shipit 6.06 CD and a snazzy Ubuntu case badge! 😯
It’s not the fastest, or newest, or flashiest laptop out there, but if you want something that plays well with Linux and is a joy to work with, I’d recommend it.
P.S.: As a side note, I’m not sure what ebay is doing to my auction there, with all the space between paragraphs. It seems to be converting the blank lines that tidy makes when it cleans the html into nbsp tags, which of course, throws a huge gap in there. Annoying, but in my experience, up to par for ebay. 👿
I am trying to pull of something similar by trying to upgrade a $50 latitude CPi with 128MB RAM, 6Gig HDD, in an effort to get a decent Xubuntu laptop. I am a linux n00b, and so your tips/ advice is much appreciated.
Excellent! It should be more than enough to get started, although if it has the same specs as this one, it’s going to be a little slow. 😉
The best place to ask questions and get started is on the Ubuntu Forums. If you have something specific that you want to ask, you could PM me there or post a thread in the Absolute Beginners area.
Have fun!
