Just for giggles, I installed Fluxbox on Gutsy today … which isn’t really very daring, since the repositories have only been open for a day or two, and there’s very little in there that has changed.
I wanted to see how much I could get done by terminal programs, so I’ve got a few funky things going there — cplay, rtorrent and mc, alongside w3m. Of course, my screenshot looks little gray there; I think that’s the wallpaper I picked, combined with the translucent terminal windows. Here’s a cleaner one.
That’s nicer. The diversion comes by way of the Fluxbuntu CD, which I wanted to try to push to Gutsy, just to be a showoff, but it didn’t happen. But it intrigued me long enough to make a clean jump to Gutsy and try a normal Fluxbox installation. …
But Fluxbox is still Fluxbox. I really want to like it, but I can’t get past the minor annoyances and all the little flukes that seem to pop up whenever I just want to get something done. It’s not the fault of Fluxbox, of course: It’s just that I’m not used to it. No doubt given a day or two I’d be fine with it — and probably like it.
But I’ll stick with Openbox for a while longer.
