aysiu’s IceBuntu proposal

If you like Ubuntu, and you like IceWM, you might want to take a look at aysiu’s suggestion of a spinoff that combines the two.

It probably wouldn’t be the first Ubuntu remix that relied on IceWM, but it does seem to be getting some attention. If, as suggested, it uses one of Albi’s themes as default, it will no doubt look good.

Yes, I know, there are plenty of naysayers that waggle their fingers at yet another version of Ubuntu. What you call it is immaterial; you can pitch in and help with it, or complain about the fact that it exists. I leave that up to you.

Personally, I salute anyone who puts together their own version, and gets something off the ground. I’ve thought about doing it myself, but I’m not about to babysit or troubleshoot a remix of any distro, even my own. I build them custom, from scratch, only. 😀

What I would like is to be able to install a system from the server cd, then “sudo apt-get install fluxbuntu-desktop” or “…apt-get install icebuntu-desktop”. It would be cool of those were packages available in the repos. I’d even be willing to try going through the mind boggling experience of adding repos through the command line to enable that to work.

I’m not really up on how spinning a different version would work. I know you can already install ubuntu-desktop, xubuntu-desktop, edubuntu-desktop, and kubuntu-desktop from a server installation. I think simply finding a way to enable other desktops, GUI’s, or whatever it is that winds up on my screen from a server installation might be easier. I’d love to be able to apt-get install fluxbuntu-desktop, but I can’t (as far as I know).

Fluxbuntu stinks IMO, and I like Flux!! You can’t add more themes for crying out loud and the default ones suck!! Yuckh, green on yellow 🙂
